Welcome!
Šolta, the island that belongs to the middle Dalmatian
islands, is situated in the west of the island of Brač, and it
embraces the area of 51.9 km with 1460 inhabitants. The highest peak
of the island is Vela Straža (237 m).
Beside the main island Šolta, near the cove of Maslinica, there
are 7 islets. The spacious coves of Rogač and Nečujam are
situated in the northeast of the island. Inland in the west, 6 km long
and 2 km wide field is situated. Grohote, Gornje selo and Srednje selo
are also situated inland.
The fishing center of the island is Maslinica.
Maslinica, a fishing place situated in the southeast of
the island, was founded in 1703 when an aristocratic family Marchi
asked from a Venetian providur permission to establish a new settlement
and to build a castle with towers for defense of frequent pirate attacks.
Nowdays the castle is turned into an attractive and well-known restaurant "Conte
Alberti"
Maslinica is very attractive to tourists who want to enjoy
absolute peace. Ferries and boats don't dock here so Maslinica is connected
with Split through Rogač.
